Japan is a fascinating country. Despite its considerably small land area, as compared to other advanced nations, and even after its devastation during the Second World War, Japan has emerged as the third largest economy in the world from having attained remarkable growth in the second half of the 20th century. Japan’s rapid post-war expansion can be attributed to its successful car and consumer electronics industries.

While their technology is highly developed, Japan is a genius when it comes to preserving its cultures and traditions. One would assume that being so forward-looking, it could easily neglect its past, but Japan proves otherwise.

The Japanese lifestyle may have been Westernized, but the Japanese remain faithful in keeping their rich cultural heritage. Take for instance their tea ceremonies, wearing of kimono, as well as learning traditional arts and crafts.

I have always been captivated by the East Asian country, its people, language, technology, arts and culture, especially anime and, of course, food. I am sure many Filipinos feel the same way. How I would love to visit Japan and maybe even live there given the chance! Those who dream the same could partially achieve this. To live in Japan, but without leaving the Philippines.

A piece of Japan can be found at the heart of Bonifacio Global City (BGC). Federal Land, Inc., works with the real estate arm of the Nomura Group of Companies, Nomura Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., and one of the largest department store groups in Japan, Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings, Ltd., to set a new global standard in real estate. The three powerhouses erect a premier four-tower residential development called The Seasons Residences. It is “the country’s first residential project with a distinct Japanese concept.”

Following the Haru and Natsu towers, a third residential building, the Aki Tower, has recently been launched. Inspired by Japan’s evocative season of autumn, homeowners can expect meticulously designed amenities and living spaces.

The Seasons Residences is a mixed-use development that features upscale residences, curated amenities, and the first Mitsukoshi in the country. Originally a kimono merchant in 1673, Mitsukoshi is the oldest department store in Japan.

The joint venture marries Filipino hospitality and sense of community with the Japanese tradition of excellence and innovation.

The joint venture marries Filipino hospitality and sense of community with the Japanese tradition of excellence and innovation. It highlights the impeccable Japanese sensibilities meant to raise the standards of comfort, convenience, and functionality for its residents. More important, all towers are fitted with Viscoelastic Coupling Dampers, a breakthrough in earthquake vibration control technology that can withstand earthquakes and high winds, common to the Philippines and Japan.

Renowned Japanese firms collaborated for the authentic design of the edifice, namely Nikken Sekkei Group for the overall conceptual design, Nomura Co., Ltd for the interior design of the mall, Torafu Architects for the façade concept, and Asao Tokolo for the façade pattern.

Units have a unique Japanese storage system that includes kitchen floor storage, shoe cabinet, and bedroom closets. Kitchens are installed with a space-saving sink with draining and cutting boards to maximize counter space, a rangehood with Japanese oil filter technology, as well as air-washing tiles that minimize excessive humidity and foul odors in the air. There is also leakage protection through a sunken slab or a below-floor drainage system for easier pipe maintenance. Eco-friendly solutions are also employed such as water-efficient Japanese-branded shower toilets in all units and motion sensor lighting in common areas.

Amenity floors, meanwhile, are inspired by the seasons of Japan, with the arrangement of the elements patterned after spring (Haru), summer (Natsu), autumn (Aki), and winter (Fuyu). A modern gym and landscaped gardens evoke the fresh beginnings of spring, while the swimming pool and karaoke room call to mind the fun of summer. Autumn inspires creativity, so a music room, reading lounge, and a business center are provided to mimic that atmosphere. For Zen, the project offers a spa and wellness room reminiscent of Japanese winters.

At the podium of the complex is the first Mitsukoshi, slated to be a four-story mall. The shopping center aims to offer a gamut of lifestyle experiences through well-curated tenants, comprised of Japanese, international, and local brands, Nipponese interior design, and mall operations. This premium commercial space showcases Japanese design elements in a casual but elegant setting. At the basement level will be the signature depachika, a haven of top-shelf Japanese food and related products. Another floor will house a modern beauty store that offers natural and organic cosmetic brands.

MÔL The four-story mall would have a selection of well-curated shops, a supermarket, and a food hall, among others

The Seasons Residences rises next to the Grand Hyatt Manila within Grand Central Park, a masterplanned community developed by Federal Land in Bonifacio Global City. Located along 8th Avenue, the property is close to St. Luke’s Medical Center, the Philippine Stock Exchange, embassies, corporate offices, international schools, parks, and places of worship. Convenient mobility options are accessible to all residents via major infrastructure developments such as the BGC-Ortigas Road Link, Metro Manila Subway System, BGC-NAIA Bus Rapid Transit System, and the Skytrain monorail link from BGC to Guadalupe, Makati City.
